Collection:
Participatory Budgeting Murals
Address:
1800 W. Pratt Blvd. (South Wall)
Description:
The mural consists of fifteen pairs of paper boats, in a rainbow of colors, floating on expanding and intersecting ripples creating a dynamic pattern. “Interrelation” emphasizes social diversity and unity in the complexity of its ripples. It is a resolution and a promise of harmony from variety and contrast. The artist wants this mural to remind everyone that we all have a responsibility to our communities and our nation, and that we have already pledged our commitment when we agreed to partake our rights. José Agustin Andreu was born in Mexico City, of Puerto Rican parents and was raised in Puerto Rico, Spain, France and the United States. He financed his education by drawing portraits at amusement parks and working in the graphic design field. Jose Andreu graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1982 and from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Master of Fine Arts in 1986. He has exhibited in the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Italy and Spain and currently teaches Painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. www.andreu.us
