Collection:
50/50 Neighborhood Arts Project

Address:
Juneway Beach Park

Description:
“Quantum Dee” is a 20-foot stainless steel and dichroic plexiglass sculpture in the shape of a spire. This piece is located at the northern end of Rogers Park at Juneway Beach Park and a second sculpture by McCarty will be installed in 2019 at the south entry of the neighborhood at Devon and Sheridan intersection.

“The sculpture’s vibrant colors are representative of the diverse community in Rogers Park, and it will reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding park and lakefront. Participants will discover that the dichroic plexiglass changes color as they walk up to it. I hope this moment of discovery will elicit joy and excitement for the Rogers Park and Chicago community for generations to come.” – McCarty

This iconic artwork was installed as part of the 2017 Year of Public Art initiative.  The initiative was inspired by Chicago’s 50 wards and the 50th anniversary of two public artworks icons the Picasso sculpture at the Daley Plaza and the Wall of Respect at 43rd Street and Langley Avenue. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events managed the project and the 49th Ward contributed menu money to commission the sculpture.

Date Completed:
2018
